It seems that most of the cooking the average bachelor does is
geared towards fixing lunch or dinner. Being a kindred spirit to this
philosophy, I have devoted the largest section of this guide to just
that notion.

To be successful at coping with the trials and tribulations of
bachelorhood, it is necessary to maintain one's strength. These
recipes are intended to accomplish this goal with a minimum of effort
and mental anguish.

I feel it is necessary to conserve one's mental capacities for
more important bachelor type duties; such as taking out every bag of
garbage in one trip.

Super Steak

1/2 lb. 1/2 inch thick sirloin tip
or comparable tender cut
seasoning salt
garlic salt
1/2 cup thinly sliced onion rings
1/8 cup melted butter
3/4 cup sliced tomatoes

Lay meat on a piece of waxed paper. Sprinkle each
side with seasoning salt and lightly with garlic salt. Work
seasonings well into meat.

Put onions and butter in a small frying pan over low
heat. Do not let butter burn! Cook onions until tender,
about 5 minutes.

Add meat and brown meat on both sides, about 5 to
10 minutes. Keep onions on top of meat while it cooks.

Add tomatoes and cover with lid or piece of foil. Do
not let foil touch meat or tomatoes. Heat 5 minutes over
low heat.

Garlic Toast

any number of hamburger or hot dog buns
butter or margarine
grated parmesan cheese
garlic salt

Separate buns into halves. Spread each half with butter. Sprinkle tightly
with garlic salt. Sprinkle moderately with parmesan cheese.

Put buns on a sheet of foil or on pan and stick in oven under broiler for a
few minutes until edges turn golden brown.

Easy Enchiladas

1/2 lb. hamburger
1/2 tsp. minced onion
1/2 can cream of mushroom soup
1/2 can enchilada sauce
1/2 cup milk
4 tortillas(flour or corn)
5 slices of cheese

Brown hamburger in a small frying pan over medium high
heat. Add minced onions while browning. Drain excess fat.

Meanwhile, combine soup, enchilada sauce and milk in a
small bowl. Stir until well mixed.

Now find a medium sized pan to bake this in. It should be
large enough to hold 4 rolled up tortillas. Scoop 1/4 of burger into
the first tortilla. Add about 3/4 of a slice of cheese; kind of
shredded up. Top with two large spoonfuls of soup and sauce
mixture. Roll tortilla up and put it in pan.

Now when you go back to roll up second tortilla, the first
one is going to unroll in the pan. To prevent this you need to
wedge something in pan next to the tortilla. I use my morning
coffee cup that hasn't been washed yet.

Proceed with the other three tortillas. Pour remaining sauce
over top of rolled tortillas. Tear up 2 more pieces of cheese and
throw on top. Bake in 350 degree oven for 25 minutes.

Serves 2 starving people or 3 to 4 regular folks.

Bean & Baloney Sandwiches

1 can of bean and bacon soup
1/3 cup ketchup
1 package of ring bologna ("U" shaped
stuff next to hot dogs in store)
4 hamburger buns

I know this one sounds goofy. Believe me, if you like barbecue, you are
going to love these.

Mix 1/2 cup ketchup with bean and bacon soup in a small bowl. Separate 4
hamburger buns into 8 separate pieces. Spread mixture evenly on 8 buns. Set
aside.

Now cut bologna into thin circles, about 1/8 inch wide. Cut enough slices
to put 4 slices on each bun.

Cover broiling pan with foil to ease cleanup. If you do not have a broiling
pan, any other pan will door just use a sheet of foil. Put sandwiches on foil and
put under broiler in oven.

Broil for just a few minutes until bologna edges
turn brown/black. Serves 2 to 4 people.
